U17/U18 BOYS (COLTS) DEVELOPMENT EVENING
TUESDAY 7TH MAY
Barkers Butts RFC - 7 – 8.30PM
Warwickshire Colts RFU and local RFU staff will be hosting a Colts Development Evening aimed at all clubs who will have players in the u17 and u18s (colts) age grades next season.
We are keen to support the needs of the clubs, players, parents and coaches involved in rugby at these age grades to provide appropriate competitive playing opportunities.
The evening will be an opportunity for you to discuss and feedback on your needs are around this age group, what you would like from your colts competitions/playing opportunities, what has worked well and what challenges you face.

To help us to do this, it would be great if you are able to bring along some key people to represent the views of your club. These would be:
· Players: max. of 4 and ideally a mix of current u16s & U17s who will be U17/18 age grade for 2019 – 20.
· Parents of players: max. of 2 and ideally not from the same family, nor part of the coaching / management team.
· Team Admin: max of 2 and ideally a Coach, a Team Manager and/or other admin related roles.

This evening is open to any club in Warwickshire who will have u17 and u18 age grade players, not just those with full teams.

Please confirm your attendance and numbers with Mattwooldridge@rfu.com by Friday 3rd May

Kind regards
Damian Dixon
Hon. Sec. Warwickshire Colts RFU

CHRIS WHEATLEY
It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of Chis Wheatley (Warwickshire RFU, Coventry RFC & Kenilworth RFC). “The best centre never to play for England”, according to David Duckham,
The date for Chris' funeral is the 8th April at 2pm North Chapel at Oakley Wood Crematorium and after at the Saxon Mill, Warwick.

JOHN RICHARDSON.
It is with regret that we inform you of the death of John Richardson after a long illness. John (or “Plum” as he was widely known) joined Leamington Rugby Club after school in 1948 and, except for a spell of National Service, played regularly for the Club from then until the late 1960’s when he retired from playing. He was an outstanding prop-forward and captained the club in 1960/61 and 1961/62.
A Solicitor by profession, as his playing career began to wind down during the 1960s, he began to widen his interest in the administration of the game and he became the club’s representative on the South Warwickshire RFU. From there he became a representative on the Warwickshire union. John became club President in 1973/74 and 1974/75 and was elected as an Honorary Life Member around this time, in recognition of his outstanding service to the Club and to the game in general. He became President of Warwickshire RFU in 1981 and its representative on the Rugby Football Union. It was s a great honour for both the Club and the County when John was elected as President of the Rugby Football Union in 1995/96. It was a difficult time for anyone to take on this office, as the game was going through the transition from amateur to open status, with all the well-publicised difficulties that this involved. We were proud that John managed to make such a great success of the role, due to his practical approach to matters, his warm and friendly approach and his honesty and integrity.
After his spell in the top job, John maintained his interest in the game through his involvement with Leamington and nationally he continued to serve as President of the Students RFU until 2012,when he stood down due to his failing health.

He will be sadly missed and our best wishes go to Diana and his family. Funeral arrangements are not yet known.

MAKING TAX DIGITAL (MTD).
HMRC have released further information on the new Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT requirements. Rugby clubs that are VAT registered with taxable supplies above £85,000pa, will generally have to keep records digitally, and provide information to HMRC using specialised functional compatible software for VAT reporting. There are generally no exemptions if a rugby club is a CASC or a charity, so these clubs (if applicable) should check their current accounting and record keeping procedures regularly. This will ensure that they will be in compliance with the requirements of MTD for VAT which is due to come into force on 1st April 2019.

FACEBOOK GROUP FOR ANY CANCELLED FIXTURES.
There is a closed Facebook group that clubs may wish to use to obtain fixtures if yours is cancelled.
The site is at https://m.facebook.com/groups/192039714684718?view=info.
However remember - you still need to advise the Referees Society of any changes.
